Police have recovered the hanging body of a young man, recently released from prison on bail, from a tree in the hills of Teknaf, Cox’s Bazar.
The deceased, identified as Md Rafiq, 30, was found on Thursday (19 September) around 11am in the hills near the Teknaf land port area, confirmed Teknaf Police Station Officer-in-Charge Mohammad Gias Uddin.
According to police reports, Rafiq had multiple drug-related cases against him, one of which led to his recent imprisonment. He was released on bail from Cox’s Bazar District Jail on 10 September.
Police suspect the incident may be linked to a domestic dispute.
Quoting family members and locals, Gias Uddin said residents spotted the body hanging from a tree in the Keruntoli hill area near the land port and immediately informed the police.
He added that Initial investigations suggest that the incident may have been triggered by a marital dispute. “However, we are conducting further inquiries to uncover the full circumstances surrounding the death.”
Family sources said Rafiq had recently been released from jail on bail after being imprisoned in a drug case, and he had been facing ongoing marital issues.
The body has been sent to Cox’s Bazar General Hospital for an autopsy.
