Youth chased, hacked to death near police outpost in Gazipur

A youth was hacked to death by unidentified men near a police outpost in Gazipur’s Kaliakair in the early hours today (12 December).

The deceased has been identified as Tajbir Hossain Shihan, 26, son of Tanvir Hossain Nannu of Mouchak Jamtala area of Kaliakair, according to locals and police. He was an employee at a call centre in Uttara.

He was chased by the killers before he was hacked to death in front of Hanif Spin Mill near the Mouchak Police Outpost at around 5:00am. 

“His body has been recovered and sent to the mortuary of Gazipur Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmed Medical College Hospital. Legal action is underway over the incident,” Kaliakair police station Officer-in-Charge Reyad Mahmud told The Business Standard.

According to eyewitnesses and locals, Shihan was heading towards Mouchak Bus Stand when five youths chased him with sharp weapons in their hands. He then headed towards the police outpost in a bid to save himself. But before he could reach there, he was brutally killed by the men, who later fled the scene before police could arrive.
