Clean Bangladesh, an environmental organisation, carried out a special cleanliness and plastic-free campaign in Chittagong’s iconic Central Railway Building (CRB) area today (27 September) in celebration of World Tourism Day.
The initiative, aimed at fostering a cleaner and greener Chattogram, saw volunteers gathering early in the morning to begin cleaning operations.
Often referred to as the “lungs” of Chittagong, the CRB area is a popular spot for locals and tourists alike, but faces mounting environmental challenges due to plastic waste. Clean Bangladesh is determined to address this issue by transforming the area into a plastic-free zone while preserving its natural beauty.
Shaukat Hossain Johnny, founder of Clean Bangladesh, emphasised the importance of protecting this vital green space.
“We want the people of Chittagong to live in a clean and healthy environment. CRB is a place of pride, but its natural beauty is being lost due to plastic pollution. This is why we have taken steps to make it plastic-free,” Johnny said.
Tanveer Risat, the team leader of the campaign, highlighted the organization’s commitment to safeguarding the environment. “CRB is one of the greenest spots in Chittagong, and we believe it is our responsibility to protect it. Through initiatives like this, we aim to keep this area plastic-free, ensuring future generations can enjoy its natural beauty,” Risat stated.
Clean Bangladesh is known for its regular cleanliness drives across various parts of Chittagong, raising awareness about environmental preservation. These efforts not only improve local hygiene and aesthetics but also contribute to making Chittagong a cleaner and more sustainable hub for tourism.
As a dedicated environmentalist group, Clean Bangladesh focuses on cleanliness, plastic elimination, and environmental conservation. Their long-term goal is to create a cleaner, greener Bangladesh that everyone can take pride in.
