Unregistered vehicles fined at Ctg Port

The Chattogram Port Authority has fined eight vehicles Tk73,000 for operating without proper registration within the port premises.

On Wednesday (9 October), the mobile court team of the port conducted raids in various yards and fined seven vehicles of the company Tk70,000 for operating unregistered vehicles. Additionally, another trailer was fined Tk3,000 for being driven by a helper, reads a press release.

Yesterday, the mobile court fined 10 vehicles from one organisation Tk3 lakh for operating without registration. Over the two-day operation, a total of Tk3.73 lakh in fines was collected.

Md Omar Faruk, secretary of the Chattogram Port Authority, stated in the press release that a variety of vehicles enter the port daily to transport goods. As per the Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA) regulations, all trucks, trailers, and other vehicles used within the port must be registered. However, these rules are frequently ignored.

He noted that improper practices, such as driving in the wrong direction, illegal overtaking, and creating traffic congestion by parking in unauthorised areas, are often caused by helpers operating the vehicles. In response to these issues, the Chattogram Port Authority conducted the mobile court operation on yesterday and today to restore traffic order within the port and improve the efficiency of its operations.

Faruk emphasised that the mobile court operations will continue regularly, and strict measures will be taken against anyone violating traffic laws in the port.
