Two motorcyclists killed in road accident on Meghna Bridge

Two motorcyclists were killed in a collision with an unidentified vehicle on the Meghna Bridge on the Dhaka-Chattogram highway.

The accident occurred around 7:30am yesterday (18 December).

The deceased have been identified as Ashraful Alam, 18 and Aseem, 17, both residents of Munshiganj’s Gazaria upazila, said police.

Police and eyewitnesses said the two individuals were riding a motorcycle from Narayanganj’s Sonargaon to Gazaria.

While crossing the Meghna Bridge during their journey, a high-speed vehicle struck the motorcycle from behind. The impact caused both riders to be thrown off the bike. Both of them sustained severe injuries and died on the spot.

“The accident occurred right after the motorcycle crossed the toll plaza on the Meghna Bridge,” said Awahid Morshed, officer-in-charge of Narayanganj Kanchpur Highway Police Outpost.

“The vehicle that hit the motorcycle has not been identified. Preparations are underway to transport the bodies of the deceased to the outpost,” he added.
