Tufan sentenced to 13 years in prison over acquiring wealth illegally

A Bogura court docket this day (27 November) sentenced Tufan Sarkar, an expelled convener of District Sramik League, to 13 years in detention heart in a case over procuring wealth illegally and concealing files.

Judge Mohammad Shahidullah of Bogura’s Particular Judge’s Court handed over the verdict.

Bogura Prosecutor Abul Kalam Azad acknowledged the case used to be filed beneath the Prevention of Corruption Act.

“Tufan used to be sentenced in two sections of the act. He bought three years’ imprisonment beneath portion 26(2) and 10 years beneath portion 27(1). He has also been fined Tk10,000, and failure to pay will lengthen his sentence by six extra months.”

Tufan is currently a fugitive. The verdict can be effective from the date of his arrest, acknowledged the prosecutor.

Apart from, the court docket seized Tufan’s resources price Tk1.6 crore.

Allegations of procuring illegal wealth against Tufan surfaced in 2017. The Anti-Corruption Commission filed a case against him on the Bogura Sadar Police Characteristic on 31 December 2018. In accordance with the case, he amassed spherical Tk1.59 crore illegally.
