Target fixed to produce over 3.96 lakh tonnes of rice in Gaibandha

Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE) has fixed a target to produce more than 3.96 lakh tonnes of rice in the district during the current Aman season.

Official sources said a total of 133,020 hectres of land were brought under T-Aman farming this season to this end.  

Of the total, some 18,871 hectares of land were brought in Sadar Upazila, 16, 310 in Sadullapur Upazila, 13,838 in Palashbari Upazila, 31,333 in Gobindaganj Upazila, 29. 852 in Sundarganj Upazila, 13,821 in Saghata Upazila and 9,095 in Fulchhari Upazila, sources said.

Besides, different state-run commercial banks including Rajshahi Krishi Unnayan Bank took initiatives to disburse agri loans on easy terms to the poor and marginal farmers to help them farm the T-Aman paddy on their land without economic hardship, said a bank official.

In addition, DAE has been conducting training for the farmers for adopting modern technologies of paddy cultivation, crop management, proper use of fertiliser and preservation of quality seed, said Rostam Ali, acting district training officer of DAE in Dhaka.

To ensure the production of T-Aman paddy in the district this year, Barind Multipurpose Development Authority (BMDA) has also kept its electricity run 365 deep tube wells fully ready to supply water to the Aman paddy field, if necessary, said an engineer of BMDA.

The transplanted Aman seedlings have grown well on the land giving the farmers hopes and expectations of desired production this year.

Talking to the BSS Deputy Director of DAE Krishibid Khorshed AlamSarker said necessary measures had been taken for the availability of fertilisers, insecticides and other agri inputs at the grass root level of the district during the current Aman season.
