A crew of males on the Syrian embassy in Moscow raised the opposition flag there this morning (9 December), an AFP journalist observed.

Standing on the embassy balcony, the males clapped and sang as they raised the fairway, red, black and white Syrian opposition flag below falling snow.

“This day the embassy opened and is working in general below a brand new flag,” an embassy advisor told TASS issue news company.

Russia was as soon as a key ally of Syria’s ousted president, Bashar al-Assad.

A Kremlin source told Russian news businesses on Sunday that Assad and his family relish been in Moscow, hours after he fled the country as Islamist-led rebels entered Damascus.

The source moreover said the rebels who ousted Assad in a lightning offensive “assured the protection of Russian navy bases and diplomatic institutions on Syria’s territory”.
