A school student, who was shot during the protests under the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement in Bogura on 5 August, has died while undergoing treatment in Dhaka.
“Junaidul Islam Ratul, 15, passed away while undergoing treatment at the National Institute of Neuro Sciences and Hospital in Dhaka last night (22 September),” Bogura Sadar Police Station Sub Inspector (SI) Abdur Rahim told The Business Standard today (23 September).
“We will provide more details later,” the SI added.
Ratul was the son of Md Ziaur Rahman, a grocery store owner in Ghonpara area of Bogura town.
According to Ratul’s family, on 5 August, Ratul left home in the afternoon to join a celebratory procession. When the procession reached near Bogura Sadar Police Station around 4pm, Ratul was shot in the head.
He was then taken to Bogura Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital. After two days of treatment there, as his condition did not improve, he was transferred to National Institute of Neuro Sciences and Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries yesterday.
