Shipping ministry launches probe into graft allegations against senior officials

The Ministry of Transport has launched an investigation against 5 officers and employees, alongside side the Chief Examiner and Chief Nautical Surveyor (fresh price), Captain Gias Uddin Ahmed of the Department of Transport, on costs of illegal financial transactions.

Allegations arose that these officers had been engaged in illegal cash transactions over second-class mastership examinations performed below the Department of Transport.

The different four employees below investigation are Abdul Aziz, Office Assistant of the Department of Transport, Nazrul Islam, Office Assistant, Asad, and Md Swapan Islam.

Extra Secretary of the Ministry of Transport, Suraiya Parveen Shelley, has been assigned to terminate the investigation.

They’ve been accused of exchanging Tk2,240,000 thousand through a syndicate within the second-class mastership examination held on 6 June this 12 months.

Sources at the Ministry of Transport urged UNB that the Investigation Officer and Extra Secretary, Suraiya Parveen Shelley, has set 16 October because the date for the sector investigation.

Moreover, the extra secretary has written to the Director Total of the Department of Transport on 2 October, asking for the appointment of an officer to attend within the investigation.

When contacted, Director Total of the Department of Transport, Commodore Md Maksud Alam, mentioned that his place of business has already got a letter from the ministry.

Regarding the appointment of an officer from his department to attend the investigation officer, the head of the Department of Transport acknowledged that he’s yet to make a different anyone however will nominate a upright officer soon.

The Anti-Corruption Price (ACC) has already initiated a formal investigation against Gias Uddin for the alleged acquisition of resources beyond known sources of profits.
