Shamsul Haque becomes first convicted war criminal to be released after finishing sentence 

Shamsul Haque alias Badar Bhai of Jamalpur, who became once convicted of conflict crimes in 2016, walked out of jail on 21 November after ending his 10-365 days imprisonment.

He’s the first convicted conflict criminal to stroll out of  Kashimpur Central Penal complex after ending their sentence, in step with World Crimes Tribunal sources.

Shamsul became once arrested in 2015 from his plot in Jamalpur. On 2 March of that 365 days, the ICT had issued arrest warrants against eight conflict criminals from the district, alongside with Shamsul. They were indicted on prices of crimes against humanity, and mass murders among others in October. Shamsul became once despatched to jail.

On 18 July 2016, the tribunal delivered the decision, sentencing five, alongside with Shamsul, to imprisonment unto loss of life. Three others were sentenced to loss of life. Shamsul, alongside with one other convict SM Yusuf Ali who became once additionally sentenced to jail unto loss of life, appealed against the tribunal’s verdict.

Yusuf died while their allure application became once below task.

In 2023, the Appellate Division reduced the loss of life sentence for Shamsul to 10 years in jail.
