A nationwide survey will be conducted next week to get everyone’s opinion on constitutional reform, said Prof Ali Riaz, head of the Constitutional Reform Commission.
“The opinions of people from all walks of life — from rural to urban areas, and youth to elderlies — will be collected with this survey,” he told media at the Parliament today (26 November).
The Constitutional Reform Commission, led by Prof Ali Riaz, has requested political parties to submit written proposals for constitutional reforms.
Earlier on the day, a BNP delegation, led by its Standing Committee Member Salahuddin Ahmed, visited the Parliament building and met the head of the reform commission to submit their proposals for constitutional reform.
BNP proposed amendments in 62 areas of the constitution, including introducing the provision to limit the tenure of a prime minister to not more than two terms in a row.
BNP’s proposals also include establishing roles for a deputy prime minister, vice president, a second chamber in the Parliament, and introducing provisions for referendums, BNP Standing Committee member Salahuddin Ahmed told the media after a meeting with Ali Riaz.
