The streets of Gulshan in Dhaka, were filled with a wave of patriotic fervor as residents and running enthusiasts gathered to commemorate Bangladesh’s Victory Day today (16 December).
Runners of different ages took part in a run of five kilometres.
The event was organised by Gulshan Society partnering with Run Bangladesh, with the support of Eastern Bank, Turaag Apparels, SMC and United Hospital.
According to organisers, the event is not just a race but a festival that celebrates the victory of the freedom fighters and the birth of a nation.
The victory run also serves a philanthropic purpose. The organisers are going to donate 10% of the registration fees to the July Shaheed Smrity Foundation. The registration fee was Tk1,000.
This has added an extra layer of motivation for runners, knowing their efforts will contribute to the welfare of our heroes of the July Revolution, according to the organisers.
Starting at the Gulshan Lake Park in Gulshan-2 and finishing at the Shahid Fazle Rabbi Park in Gulshan-1, the participants weaved through the wide Gulshan Avenue and past modern landmarks.
Organisers emphasised that the route, carefully mapped through the scenic and bustling neighborhood of Gulshan, provides runners with a unique blend of modernity and natural beauty.
