River, forestland encroachers to face strict action: Rizwana

Strict action will be taken against those encroaching on rivers and forestlands, Environment Adviser Syeda Rizwana Hasan said today (15 December).

The adviser sounded the note of warning to the river and forest-land grabbers, while addressing as the chief guest in the inauguration of an event in the city through a virtual platform.

The event titled “Eco Leaders Youth Empowering Initiative on Environment, Climate, and Renewable Energy for Bangladesh,” was held at the Bangladesh Military Museum.

Rizwana said the government is working tirelessly to keep the environment free from pollution and development activities are being conducted in line with public expectations, avoiding destructive practices and rather moving towards sustainable development.

She said Bangladesh is grappling with challenges like floods, droughts, and salinity caused by climate change.

The adviser urged the youth and all sections of society to come forward in tackling these issues collectively, ensuring solutions through united efforts.

Earlier in another function arranged in the afternoon to observe International Human Rights Day in the city, the environment adviser said the current government has taken various initiatives to uphold human rights and that commissions are actively working on necessary reforms.

She assured that women would be included in the National Adaptation Plan (NAP) to combat climate change effectively.
