NBR reduces import tax on three types of ship recycling machinery 

The National Board of Revenue (NBR) has reduced import responsibility on three kinds of equipment—crawler cranes, magnetic excavators, and hydraulic bulldozers—to 1%  as capital equipment frail on ship recycling from 27%

This resolution, announced on 8 December, goals to promote environment-pleasant practices in ship recycling yards.

Ship recyclers will possible be ready to savor this reduced responsibility support until June 2025.

In an command, the NBR talked about that the exemption became as soon as launched following the govts ratification of the Hong Kong Worldwide Convention for the stable and environmentally sound recycling of ships (HKC) in June 2023.

“The aim is to facilitate the transformation of ship recycling yards into inexperienced shipyards, adhering to environmentally sound practices,” acknowledged the NBR.

Ship recyclers welcomed the resolution, announcing this would well support the industry grow extra.

“This initiative would enhance the upgrade of ship recycling yards to meet HKC standards,” Sekandar Hossain, chairman of KR Team, a notable figure within the shipbreaking industry, told The Substitute Usual.

He also talked about that while they’ve been taking advantage of a 1% responsibility rate on capital equipment until the fiscal year 2024-25, these three objects were eradicated from the listing within the final budget, subjecting them to a 27% import tax.
