The government has suspended Md Shafiqul Islam Akand, a commissioner of the National Board of Revenue, today on allegations of taking bribes.
“He has been suspended under The Public Servants Act for allegedly taking bribes at his office on 2 September,” reads an order signed by Abdur Rahman Khan, secretary of the Internal Resources Division (IRD) and chairman of NBR.
He is currently serving as a member of the Chattogram Tax Appellate Tribunal.
NBR Chairman Abdur Rahman Khan could not be reached for a comment in this regard while three officials of the revenue board’s tax department refused to comment.
