Mastermind of Lt Tanzim murder, associate held by joint forces in Cox’s Bazar

Joint forces have arrested the mastermind, alongside associate, of army officer Lt Tanzim Sarwar murder with locally-made weapons from Cox’s Bazar’s Chakaria.

The arrestees are Nasir Uddin, 38, and Enamul Haque, 50, confirmed Senior Assistant Director (Law and Media) of RAB-15 in Cox’s Bazar and Additional Superintendent of Police Md Abul Kalam Chowdhury.

A total of nine people, including the prime accused in the murder case Md Babul, have been arrested so far, RAB said.

“Police, RAB and army personnel have been carrying out joint drives to nab the accused in Tanzim’s murder case. Upon receiving the information that some of the accused were staying at Kahariyaghona area in Chakaria, the joint forces conducted a drive there early Friday,” Abul Kalam said.

“Two people tried to flee when joint forces reached the place. The forces chased and arrested them, and found two locally-made guns and three bullets upon searching them,” Abul Kalam added.

Abul Kalam also said the arrestees confessed to their involvement in the murder during primary interrogation.

“Among the arrestees, Nasir confessed that he had stabbed Tanzim in the throat, and Enamul confessed that he had helped Nasir,” Abul Kalam said.

The RAB director added that the arrestees have been handed over to Chakaria police station.

Lt Tanzim Sarwar Nirjon died after getting stabbed by robbers while conducting an operation at East Maizpara in Chakaria’s Dulahazara around 3am on Monday (23 September).

Police and the army lodged two cases with Chakaria police station as plaintiff in this regard on early Wednesday (25 September).

According to ISPR, upon receiving the news of a robbery at Maizpara in Chakaria, members of Chakaria army camp reached the spot within an hour. 

During the drive, Tanzim chased 7-8 robbers, and at one point, was stabbed in the neck by them.

As Tanzim started to bleed, he was rushed to Malumghat memorial Hospital, where the on-duty doctors declared him dead.

A total of six robbers were detained by the joint forces during the drive, from whom two guns, 11 round bullets, a knife, a pickup truck and a motorcycle were seized.

Tanzim, hailing from Tangail, finished his Higher Secondary Examinations from Pabna Cadet College. 

He received commission after completing the 82nd long course from Bangladesh Military Academy.
