Krishak League President Samir sent to jail

A Dhaka court today (7 October) sent Bangladesh Krishak League (BKL) President Samir Chanda to jail in a case filed over the murder of Dulal Sardar during the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Saifur Rahman passed the order as police produced Samir before the court after end of his remand in the case and pleaded to keep him behind the bars till the end of probe.

On 4 October, Samir was placed on a three-day remand in connection with the case. He was apprehended by the police from the Badda area of the city at around 12:10am on the same day.

Dulal joined the student movement on 18 July. As their procession came in front of BRAC University in Badda, Awami League cadres allegedly opened fire on them, killing Dulal on the spot.

The case was filed on 26 September against 45 people, including ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina.
