Kamal Mahmud, former vice president-1 of Real Estate and Housing Association of Bangladesh (REHAB), has been removed from the organisation over alleged embezzlement of Tk1 crore and various irregularities.
The decision was taken at the 5th board meeting of REHAB held today (23 September) at the REHAB office, said a press statement.
According to the statement, Kamal, also the managing director of Skiros Builders Ltd, is prohibited from using any seal, billboard, or advertisement related to REHAB membership, and cannot avail any facilities or conduct real estate business under the identity of ‘REHAB member’.
On 3 August, a committee was formed at the 3rd board meeting of REHAB to investigate the financial and administrative matters of the organisation.
After the investigation, the committee found irregularities amounting to Tk1 crore and sought Kamal’s explanation over the matter.
On 19 September, he was given an opportunity to present his statement at the REHAB office, but he did not appear, the statement reads.
On 31 December 2018, after conducting an investigation, the Ministry of Commerce informed REHAB about the irregularities amounting to Tk1 crore.
However, the then board did not take any action in this regard.
There are also allegations of financial irregularities against Kamal in the REHAB Training Institute, it added.
