Journalist Golam Sarwar barred from travelling to Dubai

Golam Sarwar, a journalist from Chattogram who had been living in Dubai since 2021 after going thru threats and lawsuits, was once barred from boarding a flight to Dubai at Hazrat Shahjalal Global Airport on Friday night time (December 13).

Sarwar, who relocated to Dubai following alleged kidnapping and torture in 2020 over a document in regards to the younger brother of gentle Land Minister Saifuzzaman Chowdhury Javed, had returned to Bangladesh in June 2024 for emergency surgical treatment.

On Friday night time (13 December), Sarwar was once removed from a Bangladesh Biman flight (BG 247) whereas attempting to reach relief to Dubai.

Authorities cited overstaying as the reason, but Sarwar stated his 180-day entry period for Dubai had now not but expired and all his immigration paperwork had been true.

Speaking to The Enterprise Identical outdated, he stated, “After I was once standing within the queue to board the flight, an immigration police officer called me apart and requested me to sit. I was once now not allowed to talk to any individual for two hours except the flight departed. After being suggested of the scenario, Asif Nazrul, adviser to the Ministry of Law, contacted Sarwar, assuring him that he would investigate the scenario.
