The Italian Embassy in Dhaka has taken steps to expedite the processing of long-pending visa applications.
In light of discussions with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the embassy has increased its consular staff and implemented several other crucial measures, reads a ministry press release issued today (3 October).
Currently, the embassy has over 40,000 pending work visa applications and they have already started returning passports to applicants after completing the necessary procedures, it said.
The embassy has assured that they will make decisions on a significant number of applications (at least 20,000) and return passports within the next two months.
However, the embassy cautioned that the issuance of visas is not guaranteed solely based on the submission of a work permit or ‘nulla osta’. All submitted documents undergo thorough verification to detect fraudulent documents and prevent corruption.
The release further stated the number of visa applications submitted to the Italian Embassy for studies, business, tourism, and family visits is also increasing.
It’s important to note that the processing time for visas and the final decisions regarding visas, as well as any appeals, are solely governed by Italian laws and regulations. The embassy is obligated to adhere to these rules.
The embassy has pledged to make every effort to resolve this visa-related issue as a priority and has assured of its full commitment to the matter. The cooperation of all applicants is earnestly requested, the release added.
