The Islami Andolan Bangladesh (IAB) has criticised the Transparency International (TIB) for using words such as “fundamentalist and communal” in a recent statement, claiming that these would create division in the society.
In a statement IAB Assistant Secretary General and President of its Dhaka north city unit Principal Hafez Maulana Sheikh Gazle Bari Masud and its north city unit Secretary Maulana Muhammad Ariful Islam said the conspiracy to divide the nation by using the words like ‘fundamentalist’ and ‘communal’ must be stopped.
They said TIB Executive Director Dr Iftekharuzzaman’s statement on cancellation of the textbook revision committee is an attempt to malign the country’s Alem-Ulama.
“The TIB is an institution of high standards and the people working there are also highly qualified, but at the beginning of building ‘New Bangladesh’ after the July revolution, the use of words like ‘fundamentalist’, ‘communal’, is not acceptable as it would create division among the people of the country,” the IAB said.
They also urged TIB executive director to retract his statement and apologise to the Alem-Ulema and the nation as well.
