Indian media reports over slain lawyer Alif were false: CA Press Wing

Some Indian media reports over slain Chattogram lawyer Saiful Islam Alif claiming that he was representing Chinmoy Krishna Das were false, the Chief Advider’s Press Wing Facts said today (27 November).

In a Facebook post yesterday, the press wing said, “Some Indian media were claiming that Alif, who was killed in Chattogram, was representing former Iskcon Bangladesh leader Chinmoy Krishna Das Brahmachari but the claim was false and was being spread with malafide intention.”

“The vakalatnama produced by Chinmoy Krishna Das to the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court has shown that Advocate Subasish Sharma is his lawyer.

“We request everyone to refrain from any provocative, false report,” the post read.

Yesterday, Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus ordered an investigation into the killing of a lawyer in the port city of Chattogram.

In a statement, the chief adviser condemned the murder and ordered an appropriate legal course, according to the chief adviser’s press wing.

Dr Yunus urged people to keep calm and stay away from participating in any untoward activities.

He has also ordered law enforcement agencies to step up security in the port city, including in all the vulnerable neighbourhoods.

“The interim government is committed to ensuring and upholding communal harmony in Bangladesh at any cost,” said the chief adviser.
