Income tax administration should be 100% online to reduce suffering: NBR chairman

The income tax system must be made 100% online to reduce the suffering of taxpayers, National Board of Revenue (NBR) Chairman Md Abdur Rahman Khan said today (3 October).

“This will remove the bad reputation of the income tax department,” he said during a meeting with income tax officials in Agrabad, Chattogram this morning.

“The officers and employees of the income tax department should see to it that the income tax payers do not face any problem while paying their taxes. Care should also be taken so that the same person is not harassed repeatedly in the name of audit,” he said. . 

Md Abdur Rahman Khan also said, “There has been discrimination against income tax payers based on personal grievances or preferences of officials.” 

From now on these issues will be monitored by the National Board of Revenue. It will be ensured that income tax payers do not face any hassle while paying tax. Every officer-employee is monitored by superiors, he added.

In addition to this, people can pay taxes online, he said, adding that 50,000 people in Dhaka have already paid income taxes online. 

The NBR chairman said, “Technical management should be created outside Dhaka as well. A massive campaign should be conducted online. For this, the Chattogram  Income Tax Department should also take necessary initiatives.”
