HC asks why those martyred in mass uprising should not be declared ‘national heroes’

The High Court has issued a ruling seeking to know why those martyred during the mass uprising led by Anti-Discrimination Student Movement in July-August should not be declared ‘national heroes’.

At the same time, it has why the families of the victims should not be given financial facilities like the families of the freedom fighters.

The HC Bench of Justice Kamrul Hossain Molla and Justice Kazi Zeenat Haque issued the ruling today (24 September) after a preliminary hearing on a public interest writ.

The court asked the cabinet secretary and the secretary of the ministry of freedom fighters to respond to the ruling within four weeks.

Senior lawyer Zainul Abedin, Advocate Raihan Alam and Zakia Humaira Toma stood for the writ during the hearing.

Earlier, Ali Najer, a resident of Cantonment area of ​​the capital filed the writ petition seeking directions to declare those dead in the mass uprising in July-August as national heroes.
