Govt to import 600,000 tonnes of rice, wheat

The authorities will import 200,000 tonnes of rice and 400,000 tonnes of wheat within 15 days.

The Advisory Committee on Economic Affairs (ACEA), in a meeting with Finance Adviser Dr Salehuddin Ahmed within the chair, gave the approval in theory.

Most often, suppliers are given 42 days to give the products as per the public procurement legislation (PPA) 2006 and public procurement principles (PPR) 2008.

After the ACEA’s approval, the present tenure has been diminished to 15 days in relate to facilitate the instant import so as that there’s no longer any scarcity of the meals.

Regarding the proposed import, the finance adviser urged reporters that the authorities has taken steps to import rice and wheat as a precautionary measure to forestall any doable meals shortages.

“While these imports usually are no longer urgently wished for the time being, the authorities targets to retain ample stock for future present,” he added.

As per the proposal, positioned by the Ministry of Food, the authorities will import 200,000 tonnes of rice within the unusual fiscal year 2024-25 and 400,000 tonnes of wheat thru the G2G (Authorities to Authorities) machine.

In the financial year 2024-25, the authorities position a design to salvage 350,000 tonnes of rice from worldwide sources and 1,923,000 tonnes from home sources.

It also position a design to salvage 700,000 tonnes of wheat from the worldwide market and 10,000 tonnes from the home market for the financial year 2024-25.
