The government will hold discussions with political parties about the election after receiving reports from the relevant commissions, said Liberation War Affairs Adviser Farooq-e-Azam said today (1 December).
During a visit to Kollapathar Martyrs’ Cemetery in Brahmanbaria’s Kasba, he said, “We will complete all the reforms and ensure election. Once the commissions submit their reports, likely by December or early January, the government will engage with political parties, the public, and stakeholders to move forward with the elections.”
Regarding participation of political parties in the elections, the adviser said it is up to the political parties to decide whether they will join the elections. “The government cannot dictate their participation,” he added.
On the issue of revising the list of freedom fighters, he emphasized the importance of identifying and removing individuals who falsely claim to be freedom fighters.
“Those who have been listed without participating in the Liberation War have deceived the nation. It is our responsibility to expose them,” he said.
Among others, Secretary of the Ministry of Liberation War Affairs Israt Jahan; Brahmanbaria ADC (General) Md Saiful Islam; Kasba Upazila Nirbahi Officer Muhammad Shahriar Muktar; Assistant Commissioner (Land) Md Golam Sarwar; and Assistant Superintendent of Police (Kasba Circle) Delwar Hossain were also present.
