Govt removes Ruhul Amin as khatib of Baitul Mukarram mosque

The government has removed Mufti Ruhul Amin from his position as the khatib of Baitul Mukarram National Mosque.

The Ministry of Religious Affairs issued a press release today (22 September) in this regard.

The release stated that Ruhul Amin has been removed from the position of khatib following due process.

This development comes after a clash broke out before jummah prayer at the mosque on Friday, where more than 50 people were injured.

According to media sources, Ruhul Amin had been in hiding since the fall of the Awami League government on 5 August.

After a six-week absence, he attended the mosque with his followers on Friday for Jummah prayers.

At that time, the followers of the current Khatib resisted the followers of Ruhul Amin. Then a scuffle took place between the two sides.
