The government today published a draft list of 708 individuals who lost their lives during the student-led mass uprising in July and August this year.
The number of martyrs may rise, said a press release signed by Deputy Secretary of Health and Family Welfare Ministry Ummey Habiba.
Earlier on 9 September, the ministry’s preliminary list stated that the death toll was 631. As per the update, the number rose by 77.
The list, which can be viewed on www.hsd.gov.bd and www.dghs.gov.bd, will be available for public review until 6 October.
Compiled from various public and private hospitals and district sources, the list identifies the martyrs from the protests under the Anti-discrimination Student Movement, the release added.
Besides, the ministry urged family members and relatives of the martyrs to scrutinise the published names, addresses and other related information to verify, correct, or add more relevant details.
It also urged them to contact their local deputy commissioners, civil surgeons, upazila nirbahi officers or upazila health and family planning officers with appropriate documentation if any names of the victims are missing from the list.
