World meals prices rose in September at their quickest price since March 2022, with sugar prices surging as dry weather and fires broken Brazilian sugarcane vegetation, the Food and Agriculture Group said Friday.

The FAO Food Label Index reached 124.4 factors in September, a 3-p.c create greater from August.

The index tracks monthly changes in world prices of a basket of meals commodities.

Its sugar designate index surged 10.4 p.c in September.

“Worsening slice potentialities in Brazil, attributable to prolonged dry weather and fires that broken sugarcane fields in slack August, were the vital drivers of the create greater in global sugar prices,” the FAO said.

Costs were also tormented by issues over the provision of Indian sugar exports after the authorities lifted restrictions on using sugarcane for ethanol manufacturing, the agency said.

Vegetable oil prices rose 4.6 p.c while the cereal index increased by three p.c.
