The Directorate of National Consumer Rights Protection (DNCRP) imposed fines Tk1.38 lakh to four fast food outlets in Chattogram for violating food safety standards during an inspection conducted in the Panchlaish area today (3 October).
The DNCRP team, led by Deputy Director Mohammad Faiz Ullah and assisted by assistant directors Nasreen Akhtar, Rana Deb Nath, and Md Anisur Rahman, inspected the fast food establishments located on the 4th floor of ‘Equity GF Fortuna Mall’ in the Prabartak Intersection area.
According to Faiz Ullah, “‘Biryani Box Kebab and Carry’ was fined Tk8,000 for preparing food in unhygienic conditions and using unauthorised chemicals.”
He further stated that “Another outlet, 9Teen Candle, was discovered selling stale rice, vegetables, and skimmed cheese, using previously used oil for frying food items, and had cockroaches in the water they were using to cook. For these violations, the establishment was fined Tk60,000.”
Similarly, restaurant ‘Crunch’ was fined Tk60,000 for storing stale food in refrigerators, with cockroaches found in cornflour, and frying rotten potatoes. Meanwhile, ‘G food’ was found using expired bread and ghee in its cooking, and freezing stale chicken from the previous day, leading to a fine of Tk10,000.
The establishments were also warned to avoid future violations.
The directorate has stated that its monitoring efforts will continue to safeguard consumer rights and ensure food safety in Chattogram.
