Consumer rights authorities in Chattogram today (7 October) fined four shops Tk20,000 for selling eggs at higher prices and failing to display price lists.
Faiz Ullah, deputy director of the Chattogram Divisional and District Office of Directorate of National Consumer Rights Protection (DNCRP), imposed the fines during a market inspection in Pahartali.
Rahmania Darbar Sharif warehouse was fined Tk10,000 for selling eggs at higher prices, while Abul Khair store, Nasir Traders, and Motaleb Mia’s shop were each fined for not having a visible price list.
DNCRP official Faiz Ullah noted that while egg prices have risen slightly, some unscrupulous traders are taking advantage of the situation by charging excessive amounts.
Additionally, he said many traders are manipulating prices by not displaying accurate price information.
He emphasised that consumer rights authorities will continue to conduct such campaigns to protect the interests of consumers.
