FoodTechBangladesh, a five-year public-private partnership running from September 2022 to August 2027, is committed to advancing aquaculture development.
Co-financed by the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Bangladesh, the programme is implemented by Larive International and LightCastle Partners.
Dutch and Bangladeshi private partners are investing €6 million to strengthen business collaboration and improve the competitiveness and sustainability of Bangladesh’s aquaculture sector.
A Centre of Excellence (CoE) is being established in Majhiali, Tarakanda upazila, Mymensingh, equipped with Recirculating Aquaculture System (RAS) technology and built with Dutch expertise. The CoE aims to develop and showcase best practices for local fish farmers, utilising RAS for high-density fish farming in smaller water bodies and tackling land scarcity.
On 9 December, FishTech Ltd, alongside programme partners, inaugurated the construction of the CoE. Presentations were made by consortium members, including LightCastle Partners, FishTech Ltd, and De Heus Animal Nutrition.
First Secretary of the Dutch Embassy, Sara Van Hoeve, underscored the sector’s potential for higher productivity and sustainability.
District Fisheries Officer of Mymensingh, Nazim Uddin, stressed that Dutch technology and knowledge could revolutionise Bangladesh’s aquaculture.
The project will also offer technical training and demonstration visits to over 200 local farmers to enhance their practices and production.
