Five women honoured with Best Joyeeta Award in Ctg

In recognition of their exceptional contributions to social development and women’s empowerment, five distinguished women from Chattogram have been honoured with the Best Joyeeta Award 2024 by the district administration.

The award ceremony took place on Monday afternoon at the Chattogram Circuit House as a part of the observance of Begum Rokeya Day and the Campaign for the Prevention of Violence Against Women.

Mohammad Sharif Uddin, additional deputy commissioner (education and ICT), attended the event as the chief guest and presented the awardees with crests and scarves to honour their achievements.

Among the awardees, Irin Nesa Munmun, founder and chairman of Try Women and Youth Development Foundation, was recognised for her extraordinary contributions to social development. Lovely Majumdar received the award for her courage in overcoming abuse and rebuilding her life with determination. Chemon Ara Begum was honoured for her role as a successful mother, while Dr Rowshan Akter was celebrated for her success in education and her professional career. In the economic sector, Nigar Sharmin was acknowledged for her significant achievements.

The ceremony was jointly organised by the Department of Women Affairs and the Chattogram District Administration. Srima Chakma, additional deputy commissioner of Chattogram Metropolitan Police, attended the event as a special guest.

The event was presided over by Atia Chowdhury, deputy director of the Department of Women Affairs in Chattogram, and moderated by Jannatul Ferdous, an official of the department. Prominent figures, including former deputy directors of the Department of Women Affairs Madhabi Barua and Hosne Ara Begum, women’s development activist Jesmin Sultana Paru, World Vision Programme Manager Johnny Rosario, and Mohammad Selim, assistant director of Pratyasha, addressed it.

Members of various volunteer organisations also participated in the programme.

The event celebrated the achievements of these women, highlighting their contributions to social progress and their roles as inspirations within the community.
