A Dhaka court today (7 October) placed ex-principal secretary to the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) Nazibur Rahman and former home secretary Md Aminul Islam Khan on three-day remand each in a case lodged over the murder of Jubo Dal leader Shamim.
Dhaka Additional Metropolitan Magistrate Mahbubul Haque passed the order as police produced Nazibur, also the former National Board of Revenue (NBR) chairman, and Aminul before the court and pleaded to place them on 10-day remand.
Detective branch (DB) of police arrested Nazibur Rahman from the capital’s Ramna area last night, while Aminul was arrested from the capital’s Banani area around 5pm yesterday.
According to the case documents, BNP called a grand rally on 28 October 2023. Awami League also called its own rally in the capital to foil this programme. At one stage, Awami League activists, with the help of police, attacked BNP’s rally in Naya Paltan, killing Shamim on the spot.
The case was filed with the capital’s Paltan Police Station on 24 September.
