Former Awami League lawmaker MA Latif, who was arrested for his alleged involvement in attacks on students during the Anti-discrimination Student Movement, sustained a head injury after slipping in the toilet of Chattogram Central Jail.
The incident occurred yesterday evening (8 October). Following the fall, Latif was taken to Chattogram Medical College Hospital (CMCH) and admitted to the neurosurgery ward for treatment.
“Just before evening, he slipped in the bathroom and hit his head. We sent him to CMCH for treatment. The doctors will determine the extent of his injury,” said Muhammad Manjur Hossain, senior jail superintendent (acting) of Chattogram Central Jail.
Brigadier General Taslim Uddin Khan, director of CMCH, said, “Former MP Latif sustained a head injury after falling in the bathroom. Tests reveal that blood clots have formed in his head. He is also a heart bypass patient and is currently under treatment here.”
Latif was arrested on 17 August from the Bayazid Bostami area in Chattogram for his alleged role in an attack on a student named Ershad, who was shot during the Anti-discrimination Student Movement.
Ershad filed a case in Double Mooring police station, naming MA Latif and 16 others, along with 100-150 unidentified individuals. Latif is accused of threatening to open fire during the incident.
