Durga Puja to be held at 106 mandaps in Bhola

Durga Puja, the biggest religious festival of the Bangali Hindu community, will be celebrated at 106 mandaps in all seven upazilas of the district this year.

The festival will begin on 9 October with due respect and religious fervour across the country and end on 12 October with the immersion of the idols of goddess Durga and other deities.

Asim Kumar Saha, General Secretary of the District Puja Celebration Committee, Bhola district unit, told the journalists that this year a total of 106 mandaps were erected in the district. Of those, 27 mandaps are in Sadar upazila, 20 in Borhanuddin, 8 in Daulatkhan, 16 in Lalmohan, 15 in Tajumuddin, 9 in Charfashion and 11 in Manpura upazila of the district.

District relief and rehabilitation office sources said a total of 53 tonnes of rice has been allocated for 106 mandaps in the district this year for the Durga Puja celebration.

Officials of the district relief and rehabilitation office said the rice distribution has already started and 500 kgs of rice has been given to each puja mandap in all upazilas, including the district town.

Superintendent of Police (SP) Mohammad Shariful Haque said stringent security measures have been taken to hold the puja in the district and law enforcement agencies will be in place to ensure a smooth celebration.

Meanwhile, the idol artisans have completed the work of making idols in every mandap of the district. Now they are giving the finishing touch.
