Dramatist Rinku sent to jail in Naimur murder case

The Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Court today (24 September) sent Rafat Mozumder Rinku, a dramatist and Dhaka City (North) Chhatra League’s former vice-president, to jail in connection with Naimur Rahman murder case.

Sub-Inspector Raju Ahmed of Gulshan Police Station, also the investigation officer of the case, produced Rinku before the court of Metropolitan Magistrate Md Sanaullah and prayed for detaining him into jail.

The lawyer of the accused prayed for granting bail to Rinku while the prosecution side opposed the bail petition. The magistrate, after hearing both the sides, ordered to send him to jail.

Police yesterday arrested Rinku from the capital’s Gulshan area for his alleged involvement in Naimur murder case.

Naimur Rahman, a student of an institution of the area, was killed in police firing in front of Suvastu building at Shahzadpur on 19 July during the student movement.

Md Khalilur Rahman, father of Naimur Rahman, later lodged a murder case with Gulshan Police Station accusing 64 people including ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina and her younger sister Sheikh Rehana.

The other prominent accused of the case are – Hasina’s son Sajeeb Wajed Joy, former chief whip Nure Alam Chowdhury Liton, his younger brother former member of parliament Mujibur Rahman Chowdhury Nixon, former state minister for energy and mineral resources Nasrul Hamid Bipu and former state minister for information Md Ali Arafat.
