The DMP has pledged to continue its operations against battery-operated rickshaws to maintain traffic order in Dhaka city

The traffic division of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) carried out a crackdown on battery-run auto-rickshaws from 22 to 28 September, taking action against 19,962 vehicles.
According to a DMP press release, 9,301 rickshaws had their electrical connections severed, while 4,159 seats were confiscated. Additionally, 660 rickshaws were dumped, and 3 batteries were seized.
Other actions were taken against 5,839 rickshaws.
The DMP’s traffic division has pledged to continue its operations against battery-operated rickshaws to maintain traffic order in Dhaka city, said the release.
The Advisory Council of Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA) decided to ban battery-run rickshaws on Dhaka city roads on 15 May.
After the ban came into effect, the auto-rickshaw drivers took to the streets and staged demonstrations.
Following the protests, former prime minister Sheikh Hasina instructed scrapping the decision to ban battery-run auto rickshaws on the streets in the capital.
