Law enforcers have arrested Iftekhar Mahmood, assistant commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (Gulshan Zone), in connection with a case filed over the killing of Suman Sikdar during the student movement.
Police arrested him from the Badda area of the capital yesterday (29 September) night, according to the DMP.
The arrest comes a month after Iftekhar’s wife reported him “missing” on 22 August.
The wife, Saba Tahsin, had sent a letter to the DMP commissioner, requesting assistance in locating her husband.
Police produced Iftekhar at the court of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Nurul Huda Chowdhury today and applied for a 10-day remand.
After a hearing, the judge placed Iftekhar on a three-day remand.
On 19 July, Suman Sikdar was shot dead in front of Fuji Tower in Badda in the capital during the student movement.
Later, Suman’s mother Mosammat Masuma filed a murder case over the incident accusing 179 people including former prime minister Sheikh Hasina.
