An Indian Border Security Force (BSF) soldier, who was detained at the Pirganj border in Thakurgaon, was handed over to the relevant authorities through a flag meeting this afternoon (24 September).
The soldier was apprehended by members of the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) from the Chander Haat BOP of the 42nd Battalion at around 11am, although the specific reasons for his illegal crossing into Bangladesh remain unclear.
Lieutenant Colonel Ahsan ul Islam, commander of the BGB’s 42nd Battalion, said the BSF soldier Upol Kumar Das was handed over to Indian authorities during a flag meeting at 4pm.
The meeting was attended by Colonel Md Ariful Haque, Sector Commander of the Dinajpur Sector, Lieutenant Colonel Md Ahsanul Islam of the 42nd Battalion, and representatives from the BSF, including DIG Esaul, Sector Commander of Kishanganj, and Acting Commander Commandant Alok Bhushan of the Ad Hoc 63 BSF Battalion.
BGB officials expressed strong objection to BSF authorities for preventing such illegal border crossings in the future.
