Cyclonic storm “Fengal” over Southwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining area moved west-northwestwards and now lies over the same area.
As of 3:00pm on Saturday (30 November), “Fengal” was centred approximately about 1,685km southwest of Chattogram port, 1,645km southwest of Cox’s Bazar port, 1,530km southwest of Mongla port and 1,545km southwest of Payra port, according to a special bulletin from the Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD).
“It is likely to move westerly direction further and cross North Tamil Nadu Coast around evening/night of Saturday,” it said.
The maximum sustained wind speed within 54 km of the cyclone centre is approximately 62 km/h, with gusts and squalls reaching up to 88km/h.
The sea will remain very rough near the cyclone centre, said the bulletin.
Maritime ports of Chattogram, Cox’s Bazar, Mongla, and Payra have been advised to hoist Distant Warning Signal-2 (R).
All fishing boats and trawlers in the North Bay and Deep Sea are advised to stay close to the coast and proceed with caution until further notice, the bulletin concluded.
