Nine more individuals were arrested in connection with Tuesday’s clash between supporters of former International Society for Krishna Consciousness (Iskcon) leader Chinmoy Krishna Das Brahmachari and police in the Chattogram court premises and Kotwali intersection.
The arrests were made during overnight raids in various parts of the Kotwali police station area, confirmed Chattogram Metropolitan Police Deputy Commissioner (Crime) Rais Uddin.
“Following the arrests of 27 individuals on Tuesday night, they were sent to court after being charged in three cases filed over the clash with police,” Rais Uddin said.
“Among the 27 detainees, seven suspects involved in the murder of lawyer Alif and the police clash were identified through video footage. If the victim’s family files a case, these individuals will also be charged with murder,” he added.
Earlier, a team from the Detective Branch arrested Rajib Bhattacharjee, also known as Suman, one of the suspects in Alif’s murder, on Tuesday evening.
The violent altercation erupted during a demonstration held to prevent taking Chinmoy Krishna Das Brahmachari to jail, who was earlier denied bail and sent to jail in a sedition case.
