Bus services resume in Rajshahi after meeting with administration

Bus services on all routes from Rajshahi, which had been suspended earlier due to an attack on bus drivers, resumed at 12:30pm today (17 December) after a meeting with the administration.

At around 11am, a meeting was held between bus owners, workers, and CNG drivers at the office of the Rajshahi Metropolitan Police commissioner.

Nazrul Islam Helal, acting general secretary of the Rajshahi Bus Owners’ Association, said, “The meeting resulted in agreements that addressed the concerns of the bus workers. Compensation will be provided to those who were injured. Additionally, the administration has assured that they will work to resolve the conflict between bus workers and CNG drivers.”

Meanwhile, passengers faced significant inconvenience due to the suspension of bus services. Many passengers with advance tickets came in the morning to collect refunds for their tickets.

Earlier, bus services from Rajshahi to other destinations including Dhaka remained suspended for the second consecutive day following a clash with CNG drivers. 

According to workers, yesterday morning (16 December), several bus drivers were attacked and beaten up by CNG drivers. Among them, two critically injured individuals were admitted to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital. 

In protest, bus services were suspended in Rajshahi. 

Nazrul Islam Helal, said, “Five of our workers are critically injured and are currently undergoing treatment at Rajshahi Medical College Hospital. Among them, two are in critical condition, and one has been admitted to the ICU.”
