Bus services halted in Rajshahi following assault on workers

All bus companies from Rajshahi to diversified locations had been suspended this afternoon (16 December) after 5 bus workers had been reportedly assaulted by CNG auto-rickshaw drivers in Tanore upazila earlier within the day.

The suspension began at 1pm, leaving passengers stranded, though buses coming from other districts had been allowed to leave.

The incident came about within the morning when 5 bus workers identified as drivers Swapan Ali, Babar, Shaheen, Nuruzzaman, and conductor Zia had been physically assaulted by CNG auto-rickshaw drivers. The Rajshahi Motor Workers’ Union reacted by halting inter-district bus companies.

Round 1pm, bus workers with sticks gathered shut to the metropolis’s Shiroil Bus Terminal and tried to march against the metropolis’s rail gate CNG stand.

Labour chief Helal Uddin intervened, urging quiet, but some workers evolved, reportedly aspiring to damage CNG vehicles.

The scenario was introduced beneath alter after police and armed forces personnel intervened. Then all but again, bus companies had no longer resumed by 5pm, inflicting critical grief to passengers.

Rafiqul Islam Pakhi, acting classic secretary of the Rajshahi Motor Workers’ Union, confirmed the suspension.

“The workers are no longer working buses. All busses from Rajshahi remain halted, rather than for buses arriving from other districts,” he talked about.

“Our workers had been assaulted and injured by CNG drivers in Tanore. The police don’t have any longer but filed a case or arrested anyone, ensuing in outrage among workers,” he added.

Tanore police discipline Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mizanur Rahman acknowledged the long-standing tensions between bus and CNG drivers.

“The divulge persists this skill that of CNG vehicles are stopped within the metropolis by bus workers, whereas buses face threat by CNG drivers in Tanore. This divulge wants resolution,” he talked about.

Addressing allegations of delays in registering a case, OC Rahman clarified, “The complaint has been submitted, and the case is being processed. It’ll be recorded quickly.”
