Professor Dr Shahinul Alam, the pro-vice-chancellor (Academic) of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU), has been appointed as the acting vice-chancellor of the university.
He will serve in this capacity until further notice, according to an order issued by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare which was signed by Deputy Secretary Mohammad Kamal Hossain today (4 December).
The order states that Professor Dr Md Sayedur Rahman, the previous vice-chancellor of BSMMU, has been appointed as a special assistant with the rank of State Minister and delegated executive powers of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.
This was gazetted on 10 November 2024, resulting in the vice-chancellor position at BSMMU becoming vacant.
As per Section 13 of the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University Act, 1998, when the position of vice-chancellor is vacant, the senior-most Pro-Vice-Chancellor is to take over the role.
Accordingly, Professor Dr Md Shahinul Alam, the senior-most pro-vice-chancellor (Academic), has been entrusted with the responsibilities of acting vice-chancellor of BSMMU until further instructions.
