Bangladeshi fisherman injured by bullet fired by Myanmar Navy in Bay of Bengal

A Bangladeshi fisherman was injured after being shot by the Myanmar Navy whereas fishing advance Saint Martin’s Island in the Bay of Bengal yesterday (27 November).

The incident occurred in the afternoon in the southeast of Saint Martin’s Island in the Bay of Bengal when a fishing trawler reportedly entered Myanmar’s waters.

The injured fisherman, Mohammad Ershad, 40, resides in the Golachipa build of abode of Saint Martin’s Island, despite the truth that his ancestral house is in Khagrachari district.

Confirming the incident, Saint Martin Union Parishad Member Md Syed Alam talked about, “On Wednesday morning, six fishermen, collectively with Ershad, ventured into the sea on a trawler owned by Ali Johar, a neighborhood resident. At one point, the trawler crossed Myanmar’s waters southeast of Saint Martin’s Island.”

“Contributors of the Myanmar Navy chased the fishermen and opened fire, injuring one fisherman. The thoroughly different fishermen on the trawler remained unhurt,” he added.

Nezam Uddin, a fisherman who returned unhurt, recounted the incident, asserting, “While fishing in the sea advance Saint Martin’s, a Myanmar Navy vessel fired at us. One of our crewmates was hit in the upright arm, causing severe bleeding. After returning to Saint Martin’s, he bought therapy at a neighborhood clinic.”

Major Mohammad Ishtiaq Murshed, performing commander of Teknaf 2 Battalion of the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), talked about, “While fishing, the Bangladeshi trawler unintentionally entered Myanmar’s territorial waters. The Myanmar Navy fired at the trawler, injuring one fisherman.”
