Awami League must be banned: BNP leader Faruque

The Awami League has to be banned as allowing such “terrorist groups” to exist would only regress the country, Adviser to BNP chairperson Zainul Abedin Faruque said today (7 October).

Speaking at a meeting titled “Bangladesh after the uprising, future elections and Tarique Rahman” at the National Press Club, he said, “Sheikh Hasina has destroyed all the constitutional institutions of Bangladesh.”

The first thing that is needed in Bangladesh is reformation of the Election Commission, the former chief whip said. However, the time required for the reform should not be stretched like that in the term of Moyeen-Fakhruddin period, he said, referring to the caretaker government which lasted for two years between 2007-2009.

Requesting the government to give a road map for the elections soon, Faruque said, if the roadmap for the elections is formed, the people will believe that it is not a government similar to the one formed by the military coup of 1/11.
