Anti-Discrimination Student Movement condemns attack on man injured in uprising

The Anti-Discrimination Student Movement has condemned a recent attack on a citizen of Chandpur who was injured in the student-led mass uprising.

In a press release sent by the organisation’s Spokesperson Umama Fatema today (17 December), it said, “On 15 December, A Hai Lavlu, who was injured during the mass uprising, took part in a protest and solidarity rally organised by the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement in Chandpur.

“After the rally, due to Lavlu’s strong stance against extortion, Chandpur Municipal Jubo Dal Joint General Secretary Kamrul Islam Sohan and his companions attacked Lavlu and his brother, causing serious injuries. The Anti-Discrimination Student Movement strongly condemns the attack.”

The release mentioned that the BNP and its affiliates are one of the participants in the mass uprising.

“However, the attack by the Jubo Dal leader and his companions on the injured fighter of the mass uprising during the post-uprising state formation period is regrettable. The Anti-Discrimination Student Movement calls on the BNP and its affiliated organisations to move away from the politics of terror and adopt a peaceful stance,” reads the press release.

The student organisation alleged that although a case has been filed by the victim, the culprits of the attack have not yet been arrested. “The Anti-Discrimination Student Movement strongly demands that the culprits be arrested and punished as soon as possible,” it added.
