Faruk Hossain, 38, an Awami League (AL) leader detained and handcuffed by police, was snatched away by unknown individuals in Bogura’s Shibganj last evening (13 December).
The incident took place in Jabari Bazar of Mokamtala Union during an attempt to arrest him over an alleged attack on a protest led by the Anti-discrimination Student Movement, said Suman Ranjan Sarkar, Bogura District Police’s media spokesperson and additional superintendent of police.
“Such an unexpected incident took place while attempting to arrest the accused. The accused is currently on the run, but we have recovered the handcuffs,” he said.
Suman said efforts are underway to apprehend Faruk, and legal actions are underway against those involved in the snatching.
Faruk, a resident of Jabari village, was a former general secretary of the Mokamtala Union Awami League.
